At Muhlenberg College, students don’t have to wait to make an impact. The Muhlenberg experience, in the classroom and far beyond, challenges them to gain the knowledge and skills that top employers and graduate schools are looking for.

“The world needs people who know how to solve big problems and know how to do it constructively,” said President Kathleen Harring. “The issues our society is dealing with are complex, and so are the solutions — whether we’re talking about artificial intelligence, climate-related disasters, or thorny public health problems. Our students are working on problems like these every day.”

The Muhlenberg difference? Here, student success is a team sport. Muhlenberg’s faculty and staff coach students as they begin to integrate their academic and professional interests. Students collaborate with one another, whether they’re in the classroom or lab — or doing fieldwork halfway around the world. Faculty work hand-in-hand with the Career Center, which connects students with hands-on experiences that allow them to explore career options and network. And our students are connected to a network of more than 20,000 alumni and parents in careers across the globe. At Muhlenberg, student success is our success.

Personalized Coaching From Day One

From orientation through graduation (and beyond), Muhlenberg students thrive on connections. Our innovative coaching program matches each new student with a personalized coaching team — a college life coach, a career coach, and a faculty advisor — that challenges them to push themselves and provides support and guidance as they learn to make the most of the opportunities available on campus.

“This program really gets to the core of who we are as a college,” said Harring. “It challenges all of our students — every one of them — to push themselves to succeed beyond anything they thought possible. And it provides the support they need to do that without fear of failure.”

The individualized attention students enjoy at Muhlenberg produces results: More than 90% of our graduates are working or enrolled in continuing education within six months of graduation, and our students have a 92% acceptance rate to dental school, 90% to medical school, and 93% to law school.

An Active Role in a Vibrant Community

Allentown is the third largest city in Pennsylvania, and the Lehigh Valley is one of the fastest growing regions in the country. Muhlenberg students have boundless opportunities to build their team beyond the confines of campus.

Community-engaged courses, internships, and research experiences allow students to apply their knowledge and build connections with local partner organizations. Local businesses and nonprofits hire students and graduates for internships and jobs, and continuing education opportunities — including at Muhlenberg’s School of Graduate Studies — abound in the area.

“It used to be that colleges like ours existed in bubbles, often in small towns a long way from the action. That’s not us,” Harring said. “Our students are out in the city and throughout the region all the time. They’re doing graduate-level research with faculty and interning in health care, major corporations, government, and nonprofits.”

Connections That Matter

Wherever students aspire to land after graduation, they can benefit from a highly engaged network of alumni and parents in careers across the spectrum — from finance to the arts; from the nonprofit world to big tech; in health care, law, media, government, education … anywhere a liberal arts degree can take you (that is, everywhere).

Each spring, the Career Center partners with faculty across disciplines to sponsor Alumni Week, which brings dozens of alumni to campus for panel discussions, classroom Q&As, and networking events that can lead to postgraduate opportunities. “Something I say about Muhlenberg all the time is that the alumni network … is 11 out of 10,” said Alberto Garrido ’21, an associate campaign manager at TelevisaUnivision. “Any time I reached out to someone from Muhlenberg on LinkedIn … almost all of them were willing to set aside 30 minutes just to chat. Whenever I come back to Muhlenberg to talk, one or two students will ask to have a 30-minute call. I will always say yes because I want to pay it forward.”
