The Ripple Effect

Students at FCS launched a Sports Psychology Club to explore high-level athletic mindset and mental health. Their initiative quickly led to a campus visit from Dr. Jody Foster, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at UPenn’s Perelman School of Medicine and sports psychiatrist for the Philadelphia Eagles. Connecting directly Dr. Foster gave these student leaders the exact validation, momentum, and guidance needed to explore the field at a deeper level.

Direct access to leaders creates an immediate ripple effect across campus; students gain the confidence to initiate ambitious pursuits of their own.

This extends directly into the annual Senior Projects, where students complete five-week immersive capstones. Inspired by clinical and scientific leaders on campus, many students take the initiative to shadow surgical teams, conduct independent research, and present their findings at out-of-state academic conferences. For others, dialogue with policy experts and journalists translates into student-led work on local political campaigns, investigative media projects, and environmental initiatives.

Having learned how to communicate with world-class professionals on campus, Friends’ Central students enter professional environments with remarkable poise and self-assurance well before college.
