He came to fix cars. He stayed to build a career.

In 2006, Tim Janney walked into CarShop Hatfield as a technician. Nearly two decades later, he’s still there, now as a manager.

“The culture is something that you can feel in the air walking into any CarShop location,” Janney says. “And after all these years, the passion hasn’t waned.”

His story is unusual in the auto industry. It’s not unusual at CarShop.

Today, 83% of CarShop management positions are held by people promoted from within. Some started as lot attendants. Others as detailers, receptionists, delivery coordinators. They built careers no one, including them, necessarily saw coming.

That’s part of the reason The Philadelphia Inquirer has once again named CarShop a Top Workplace – one of 34 Top Workplace awards the company has earned across its markets over the past 13 years.

The award isn’t based on executive nominations or company submissions. It comes from a confidential, third-party survey where employees, not leadership, say what it’s actually like to show up every day.

People love to stay at CarShop

General Sales Manager Stephen Bodnar remembers reading CarShop employees talking online about having fun at work.

“At the time, I thought it was an exaggeration,” he says. “Until I accepted a position and experienced it firsthand.”

Finance Manager Carleigh Zepp joined as a delivery coordinator in 2017. “I’ve worn many different hats… and every role has taught me something new,” she says.

Different starting points. Similar pattern: people come in, find out the culture is real, and stay.

Culture is something you are, not just something you say.

CarShop believes the experience it creates for employees shapes the experience those employees create for customers. That’s not a slogan… it’s who they are.

Managers are expected to coach and develop their teams. Employees are surveyed regularly, and their feedback drives real changes. People recognize each other through initiatives like Culture Champions.

It doesn’t run as a program. It shows up in the everyday work across service, sales, finance and inventory at CarShop’s Philadelphia-area stores in Hatfield, Chester Springs, Glen Mills, and Mount Holly.

CarShop is looking for people like you.

Many positions at CarShop don’t require previous automotive experience. CarShop looks for attitude, integrity, and a willingness to learn. The company teaches the rest.

You don’t have to know exactly where a career at CarShop will take you.

You just need to start.
